Dermal fillers are one of the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments in the world — and for good reason. They offer immediate, natural-looking results with minimal downtime. But if you're considering fillers for the first time, it's natural to have questions.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. At Glow By Dr. Zahrah, we exclusively use hyaluronic acid (HA)-based fillers — specifically Teoxane and Juvederm — both of which are fully licensed in the UK.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that attracts and retains moisture. HA fillers are reversible, dissolvable with hyaluronidase if needed, and have an excellent safety profile when administered by a qualified medical professional.
What Can Be Treated?
The most popular treatment areas include:
- Lips — for definition, shape and volume
- Cheeks — to restore youthful fullness and lift
- Chin — for improved facial balance and profile
- Nasolabial folds — the lines running from the nose to the mouth
- Marionette lines — lines running downward from the corners of the mouth
What Does the Procedure Involve?
At your initial consultation, Dr. Zahrah will assess your facial structure, discuss your goals, and create a personalised treatment plan. There is no obligation to proceed.
During the treatment itself:
- A topical numbing cream is applied to the area for comfort
- The filler is carefully injected using a fine needle or cannula
- Results are visible immediately
- The entire procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes
How Long Do Results Last?
Most hyaluronic acid fillers last between 12 to 18 months, depending on the area treated, the product used, and your individual metabolism. Areas of high movement (such as the lips) may metabolise filler more quickly than static areas.
What About Side Effects?
After treatment, it's normal to experience:
- Swelling — most pronounced in the first 24–48 hours
- Bruising — especially in vascular areas like the lips
- Redness and tenderness — usually resolves within a few days
Serious complications (such as vascular occlusion) are rare but are exactly why it's essential to choose a qualified medical professional. Dr. Zahrah is a fully qualified doctor trained at King's College London.
The 14-Day Review
Every treatment at Glow By Dr. Zahrah includes a complimentary 14-day review appointment. This allows Dr. Zahrah to assess your results, make any refinements, and ensure you are completely happy with your outcome.
